VISA REQUIREMENTS USING THE MOZAMBIQUE GOVERNMENT’S ONLINE PORTAL

There are various types of tourism visas available on the Government of Mozambique’s website: https://evisa.gov.mz/. Please make sure you choose the correct visa option:

• Border visa (allows 2 entries) for 30 days [cost is USD50]

• Tourist visa (allows multiple entries) for up to 30 days [cost is equivalent to USD100]

• Tourist visa (allows multiple entries) for up to 60 days [cost is equivalent to USD200]

• Tourist visa (allows multiple entries) for up to 90 days [cost is equivalent to USD300]

(Other types of visas are also available on the portal including Business & Investment visas.)

You will require the following documents which must be scanned, clear, legible and in one of the supported formats: JPEG, PDF or PNG.

✓ Recent Passport size Photograph

✓ Passport copy, not less than 6 months validity

✓ Proof of financial means

✓ Proof of paid hotel reservation or Term of Responsibility (Termo de Responsabilidade)*

✓ Return ticket

*If visiting friends or family, a ‘Termo de Responsabilidade’ (Term of Responsibility) is required and must be written by the host. The Term of Responsibility should be authenticated as well by Mozambican authorities (typically a notary or consulate if outside of Mozambique).

The visa is paid for on arrival in Mozambique at the port of entry. In case the Immigration Authority’s Visa/Mastercard system is down, it’s best to carry cash notes in USD. Notes of USD 50 and USD 100 are accepted provided they are from the year 2013 onwards and have no ink or other markings on them.

VISA EXEMPTION COUNTRIES

As of 1 May 2023, the Mozambican Government has given visa exemption to 29 countries, with only payment of a MZN650.00 tax being applied. The procedure will eventually go online but until such time, one can simply pay the tax on arrival.

Currently there is a distinction between a Tourist (guest staying in a hotel); and a Visitor (guest staying with family or friends), and the visa exemption is currently given to the Tourist but not the Visitor. We are hoping that these 2 categories will be merged, and that Visitors will in future also benefit from the visa exemption regime.
